Effectively operating and effectively marketing a business are two totally different things. Whether you are just starting out or are well established, you should always be asking questions.

As technology changes, so do your customers preferences. Here are three things you should do and evaluate on a regular basis to be sure you are relevant and top of mind with your customers and prospects.

Establish. Continually ask yourself… who are my customers? What do I want my customers to know about my business when they see my business name/logo/website? Make it easy for your customers to know who you are and what you do at every touch point. Make sure all of your communications and connections with clients and prospects are consistent.

Position. How has your industry changed in the last few years? What changes are coming, and how can you get ahead of them? How do you set your company apart from your competitors? What three problems can you solve for your customers that your competitors cannot/do not?

Promote. Are you reaching out to your customers and prospects every day? How are you doing it? What are you telling/showing them? How are you motivating them to choose your company over your competitors? Are they responding? Are you asking your customers for feedback and referrals? Is your website updated and include timely, relevant information that your customers find valuable?

As a business owner, these are questions that should always be on your mind. Know what your competition is doing, and know their weak spots. More importantly, focus on your strengths and opportunities. Connect with prospects and customers every day. Go above and beyond for them. Take massive action toward success. Constantly question yourself, your industry and your customers to help you make better decisions going forward. The answers will bring more business, more revenue and more attention.
